Roman Legacy in Nîmes

Back in December 2015, me and all the Indonesian Swimming team had an opportunity to train abroad. Well, i never thought we would go to France someday, but we did! We went to Nimes, southern city in France. From Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris, it took 10 hour drive by bus to the south. We had training camp with coach David Armandouni for two freakin weeks! It was cold winter, one of a kind hell week, tough days, I didnt like the food, but when by the end of the day it was worth it. Because coaches let us to visit some of the cool place in Nimes, Lyon, Paris, and of course Disneyland.

Long story short, after ten days of hard training we reached Christmas Day, and finally got a day off. thou we didn't speak french and either of french people speaking English, we still managed to get around the city and do some shopping. All the place we visited were in walking distance. From where ever you are, you just stop by the Gare de Nimes (Nimes Railway Station).

Nimes was a Roman Colony before 28 BC, that's why some of the historic building got the Roman influence. this place also known as the birthplace of the family of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius .So lucky to visit Nimes that has got a historic place such Arena of Nimes ( a roman amphitheater), it was build around AD 70.

Maison Carrée,

then moving on to next place is, Maison Carrée, the square house. it is an ancient building in Nîmes, southern France; it is one of the best preserved Roman temple façades to be found in the territory of the former Roman Empire.

It was a legit Christmas eve when we found Nimes Cathedral, thou it's no longer being used for mass purpose, I walked it and pray Thank God for the oppurtunity He had given me. the Nîmes Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Castor de Nîmes) is a Roman Catholic church in Nîmes, France. The cathedral is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to the local Saint Castor of Apt. The cathedral is believed to stand on the site of the former temple of Augustus. It is partly Romanesque and partly Gothic in style.

I never been to Rome, so seeing these Roman legacy was quite magical. the building was still intact and well preserved, very beautiful with no vandalism marking like I used to see back at home. So one of my bucket list, checked, seeing one of the Roman amphitheater.
